The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), an organisation of film artistes, said they proposed to start a cooperative society for the welfare of its members.

Speaking to reporters after the Association's 13th Annual General Meeting, AMMA President Innocent said that the proposal was raised in the meeting and would be discussed in the executive committee meeting.

Innocent said the meeting had also decided to raise a fund, which will be utilised for the artists welfare. The fund will be raised from voluntary contributions, he said.

Another project of Amma, 'Kaineettam', is already in place, through which financial assistance is provided to the deserving artistes.

AMMA would bring out a magazine next year, he said, adding that work on the production of a Malayalam film would begin in November this year.

"It is a lesson', Innocent said referring to the strike and agreement reached between MACTA Federation and the Kerala Film Producers Association without any mediator'.

MACTA had gone on an indefinite strike from Jun 19 over some of their demands. The strike was called off on June 22, after a meeting between the producers and MACTA.

Of the 310 and odd members, 143 including super stars Mammootty and Mohanlal attended the meeting.
