Calcutta News--Tale of a channel producer

Blessy's latest flick Calcutta News is fully shot in and around Calcutta, the homeland of Satyajit Ray, Hrithik Katak, Rabindranatha Tagore, Mannadey, Salil Chaudhary etc.

Dilip, Meera Jasmine and Indrajith play central characters in the film. Though some scenes of G Aravindan's Vasthuhara, Shyama Prasad's Akale and Kamal's Mazhayethum Mumbe were shot in Calcutta, Calcutta News will be the first one to be fully shot here. The shooting was first delayed due to the film strike, and then came Meera's date problems and finally it was the incessant rains.

Blessy wanted to shoot his film in Calcutta after seeing Pather Panchali.

The film revolves around Ajith Thomas, the programme producer of a TV channel Calcutta News. Born and brought up in Calcutta, his parents had also worked here years before. Now he stays with his mother and siblings.

Ajith happens to meet Krishnapirya, a widow. This Blessy film is entirely different from his earlier films and is based on the happenings in one year in the life of a channel producer.
Meera plays a school dropout, forced into the flesh trade and sent to West Bengal at a young age. Other casts include Innocent, Vimala, Manasa, Bindu Panicker, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and many others.

Deb Jyothi Mishra, assistant of Salil Choudhary composes music for the songs penned by Vyalar Sharatchandra Varma. S Kumar wields camera for the film.
