VS lends support to IT firms' new units in state

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the LDF Government headed by him would extend all support to major IT companies setting up facilities in any part of the state.

Speaking after laying down the foundation stone of the first own campus of IT major Infosys at Kazhakkoottam near here, he said not just the state capital but any other place in Kerala was suitable for starting IT and ITES ventures.

He said the government expected that the companies to develop their facilities at sites acquired for the purpose without delay, to prevent the state from taking back the land un-utilised for long.

Infosys co-founder and board member K Dinesh said the company had plans to invest Rs 3.06 billion in developing the centre, creating a seating capacity of 8,000.

The new campus was in addition to the company's existing facility at Technopark here which had a capacity of 1,100.

The first unit of the new campus would have a capacity to employ 1,500 people. Law Minister M Vijayakumar, City Mayor C Jayan Babu and MLA M A Waheed were also present on the occasion.
