A new political party `Malayali Desiya Munnani' was launched here on Wednesday to 'protect' the interests of Keralites.

`MDM will be a regional party which will fight for the rights of Keralites, presently taken for a ride by political parties who take orders from their high command', MDM chairman K.N. Rajasekaran Nair said announcing the launch of his party at press conference here. Claiming that both the ruling and opposition parties at the Centre were only in favour of centralisation, Rajasekaran said MDM would join like-minded parties at the national level to fight for more de-centralisation of powers to the states.

While main political parties in Tamil nadu were prepared to work together for their state's cause on issues like Cauvery waters dispute, he said in Kerala there was no such unity for common cause benefiting the state. The MDM had already established units in all 14 districts barring Kollam, he said, adding that the membership drive would be conducted immediately.
