Etihad airways starts ops to Thiruvananthapuram
The national airline of the UAE, Etihad Airways on Wednesday started its three flights-a-week service from Abu Dhabi to Thiruvananthapuram.The flights form part of a major expansion in the Indian market, which includes Etihad's New Delhi service going daily and the launch of flights to Kochi next week, the airways Executive Vice President (Sales and Service) Geert W Boven said at a function, launching the flight service here.
Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan wanted the airlines to charge affordable ticket price to expatriate Keralites travelling between Kerala and Arab countries.
The new services boost Etihad's India operations from 10- 21 flights a week, which would increase to 28 flights a week in October, when the Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram daily flights start from Abu Dhabi, Boven said.The state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Law Minister M Vijayakumaram and Health Minister P K Sreemathi were present at the occasion.
