Lateral Entry Scheme for B.Tech course

Lateral Entry Scheme is intended to admit meritorious Diploma holders to the Second Year/Third Semester B.Tech course to acquire a Degree in Engineering.

Lateral Entry Scheme is approved by Government of Kerala as per G.O (MS) No.156/2002/H.Edn. dated 13.11.2002 in 10% additional sanctioned seats. In order to maintain uniformity among various schemes of Diploma holders, AICTE has suggested a State level Entrance Examination for the selection of meritorious students who passed the Diploma with good academic records. AICTE has also suggested to conduct of remedial courses for Diploma holders admitted to Degree programmes through Lateral Entry for making up their deficiencies. These students will have to successfully complete such remedial courses within the stipulated time. The admission will be subject to the regulations of the Universities concerned.

Eligibility for Admission

Candidates shall have passed Diploma in Engineering awarded by the State Board of Technical Education or equivalent and must have a minimum of 60% marks for the Diploma. The relaxation of 5% marks
will be allowed to SEBC candidates. For candidates belonging to SC/ST community a pass in the qualifying examination will be sufficient.

Those who are appearing for the final year Diploma will be eligible to apply subject to the condition that they will produce the mark list at the time of conselling.

Maximum age as on the last date of submission of application will be 28 years.

Non-Keralites are also eligible to apply but their admission will be restricted
to the Self-financing Institutions.

Candidates will be admitted only to the branch of Engineering as per the equivalency
given in Annexure B.

Fee Structure

Fee structure of the course will be announced at the time of Counselling.

Reservation of Seats

15% of the seats under Lateral Entry are reserved for the Management in the
case of Aided Engineering Colleges.

50% seats under Lateral Entry will be filled by DTE and the 50% by the management
in the case of Self-financing Institutions.

Communal reservation for candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) and SC/ST category will be followed as per usual norms.

[Ezhava-9%, Muslim-8%, Latin Catholic other than Anglo Indian-2%, Backward Hindu-5%, Backward Christian-1%, Scheduled Caste-8% and Scheduled Tribe-2%.]

3% seats are reserved for physically disabled candidates. Candidates claiming reservation under physically disabled quota shall have a minimum of 40% disability. A disability Certificate from

the District Medical Board has to be attached along with the application. Such candidates are also required to produce a certificate obtained from a Medical Officer not below the rank of Assistant

Surgeon to the effect that the candidate is fit enough to undergo the course.

One seat is reserved for Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Enginee-ring, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering and Information Technology branch for defence quota. For claimimg reservation, relevant certificate should be attached.

Claim for Communal Reservation

Candidates belonging to SEBC whose annual family income (annual income of all members in the family from all sources taken together) is upto Rs.2.5 lakhs are eligible for reservation under this category.

Candidates claiming reservation under SEBC category should invariably produce both community and income certificates both obtained from the concerned Village Officer in the body of the application form.

The candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota should produce Community
Certificate from the Thahsildar in the body of the application.

In the absence of SC/ST candidates seats will be filled from OEC category and they have to furnish Community and Income Certificates obtained from the Village Officer in the body of the application.

Candidates who are not eligible for communal reservation benefit and who wish to be considered

for any scholarship/concession based on the family income that may be announced by the Government / College / Admitting Authority at any time after the submission of application should also submit the

income certificate from the concerned authorities at the time of submission of application itself.

Application Fee

Application Forms can be obtained from the Distribution Centres given in Annexure

Application fee is Rs.500/- for General candidates and Rs.250/- for SC/ST candidates. This fee should be remitted by Demand Draft issued from a Nationalized Bank drawn in favour of Director, LBS Centre for Science and

Technology payable at Thiruvananthapuram and submitted along with the Application Form.

Submission of Applications

Application Forms duly filled up along with the Demand Draft and other documents should reach the Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 033 by Registered Post/in Person on or before 5 PM on 17.7.2006.

Entrance Examination

State Level Entrance Test for a duration of 2 hours will be conducted by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram for the selection of candidates for admission to second year/third semester B.Tech course under the Lateral Entry Scheme.

Examination Centres will be at Thiruvananthapuram, Eranakulam and Kozhikode.

Admit Card for the Examination will be send by the LBS Centre.

Candidates shall secure a minimum of 20% marks for the Entrance Test.

The Entrance Test will be on selected subjects of first year B.Tech course and English language as per the scheme and syllabus given in the Annexure D. The rank list will be published by LBS Centre.

Valuation and Declaration of Results

A fully computerized system has been adopted for the valuation of the answer scripts using Optical Mark Reading (OMR) System and also for the preparation of the results.

The valuation or scoring will be error free under the above system and hence there is no provision for revaluation or rechecking of the answer scripts or recounting of the marks.

The marks secured by the candidates will not be disclosed under any circumstances and any such enquiries will not be entertained.

Selection

The allotment of Colleges will be made by the Director of Technical Education in accordance with the candidate’s rank in the Entrance Examination and availability of seats in the various categories at the time of counselling.

There will be only one time allotment by the Director of Technical Education.

The Principals of the concerned Institutions will fill the remaining seats, if any, from the Entrance Examination rank list with intimation to Director of Technical Education.

Admission to the seats that are lying vacant due to non admission in the first year in the Self-financing Institutions will also be made under this scheme from the rank list. Details of such seats should be intimated to the DTE well in advance.

The selection for admission will be provisional and subject to the verification of the original documents by the concerned Principals at the time of admission.

All disputes pertaining to the Examination, or admission shall fall within the jurisdiction of the Honourable High Court of Kerala.

Any other details not specifically covered by the clauses given in the Prospectus will be decided by the DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION and his decision will be final and also he is empowered to cancel any admission found to be illegal subsequent to the admission.

Sir,
just i completed Auto mobile eng; diploma from Kalamassery polytechnic. I scored 58.8% mark in final year and 49.92% in second Year. I am belogs from MUSLIM community, eligible for OBC (SEBC)reservation. would you mind to tell me, I am elible for B.Tech lateral entry.

Is lateral entry sites in all colleges?

sir,i am a student pased out from carmel polytechnic.When i contacted some self financing colleges for information about lateral entry,they r saying that they will not admit any students as lateral entry...they r not saying any reason 4 that.Self financing colages can admit students for lateral entry only if thay like? plz give me a reply....
