Machattu Mamankom - Machattu Thiruvanikkavu Temple, Vadakkanchery

Machad Mamangham has its written history of more than 800 years. It is one of the oldest religious, social and cultural festival of Kerala. The location of the Mamangham is situated at Machad Thiruvanikkavu Temple. The shine is dedicated to goddess Bhagavathy in three roles viz. Saraswathy. Lakshmi and Durga

The temple celebrates the famous Machattu Mamangham festival with great pomp and splendor for five days from 13th February to 17th February. The Mamangham ritual is on the concluding day i.e. 17th February. It is a combined efforts and participation of five Desams (Manalithara, Viruppakkah, Karumathara, Mangalam and Punnamparambu), lead by Punnamparambu this year.

Punnamparambu, Thekkumkara and Panangattukara-Kallampara Desams take turns among themselves to lead this festival annually.

Important events from 13th February to 17th February :

13th February
Parapurappadu in the evening, with Sample fire works, followed by various cultural programs at Thiruvanikkavu temple.

Manalithara Desam's Illumination of streets (approximate area of 5 KMS) and Pandals and Nila Pandals are one of the important arrangements for display of the public, which is very popular during the Mamangham

14th February

16th February
Tharayil Para. It is the most important day for the people residing at Machad Desams (Punnamparambu, Manalithara, Karumathara Viruppakkah) for receiving Bhagavathy at their homes.

17th February
Richly decorated Poikuthiras (motifs of horses) are ceremoniously brought to the temple from four Desams viz.Manalithara, Viruppakkah, Karumathara and Mangalam and also from the temple as ezhunnallippu (offerings). Spectacular fireworks of Karumathara, Viruppakkah and Manalithara Desams from 12.30 PM to 1.30 PM.

Afternoon 1.30 PM.Manalithara Desam's Pooram Purappaddu with Kumbhakudam, from Kettippadam is one of the important and spectacular events in the Mamangham.Once it reaches the temple the famous Panchavadhyam will start from the Veenukandam and will end at the North Nada of the temple, followed by the famous Melam (traditional percussion music) converging in the temple courtyard in the evening, unfolding an extravagant spectacle of fireworks; Kuthirakali at 5.30 PM and on the next day morning at 7.30 is another memorable event of Machad Mamangham.Panchavadhyam will repeat at night and Mamangham will conclude after the Melam at 8.00 AM on 18th February.
