Paripally Gajamela
The festival at the Kodimootil Sree Bhadrakaali Temple Paripally, 48 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, south Keralais noted for the Gajamela or elephant pageant . Over 50 elephants are taken out on a ritual procession on the tenth day of the festival. Another unique practice at this temple is that elephants are offered as nercha (ritual offering to the deity for prosperity) by the devotees. Cultural programes are held during the festival days. The temple is dedicated to goddess Bhadrakaali.
