Thyppooyam Sree Maheswara Temple Koorkancheri

Thaippooyam Mahotsavam is a one-day festival dedicated to Lord Subramanya, the eldest son of Lord Siva and goddess Parvathi and is celebrated in most temples in Kerala. On the festival day devotees carry Kavadies on their shoulders in a ceremonious procession to the temples. The Kavady is a wooden arch richly decorated with peacock feathers, tapestry or artificial flowers and is balanced on the shoulders while the devotees dance. Kavadies are of different shapes and sizes. This ritual dance of the devotees carrying these is called Kavadiyattom.
