Prithviraj in Thalappavu

Actor Madhupal's film titled Thalappavu has Prithviraj in the lead role. It's a story of the dreaded Naxal movement in Kerala in the early '60s. The epicenter of the movement was the tribal-dominated hilly district, Wayanad. The film tells the real life story of Varghese, the naxal leader, who was involved in several naxal attacks in Kerala.

He was finally shot dead by the police. However, his death has earned him an aura of a local 'Che Guevara'. The story is as told by P Ramachandran Nair, the police constable who has claimed to have killed Varghese on orders from above. He made his confessions 28 years after the incident and it had set off an intense debate in the media.

Prithviraj plays the role of Varghese and Lal plays the role of Ramachandran Pillai. Bollywood actor Atul Kulkarni is the landlord while Krishna Deva Saiver and Meera Krishna play the two female lead.

Madhupal says, "In the film, I tell the story of a reacting youth". However, it is not a story of Varghese alone but of a hapless generation that rebelled against injustice and cruelty, he adds.

Ace cinematographer, Azhakappan handles camera for the film and Alex Paul composes music.
