The University of Madras has invited applications for admission to its M.Phil, Master's and postgraduate diploma programmes under the choice-based credit system at the Madras University's departments of study and research for the academic year 2008-09.

M.Phil, in ancient history and archaeology; historical studies; education; continuing education management; defence and strategic studies; public affairs; public administration; South and Southeast Asian studies; economics; applied economics; development economics; communication; philosophy; Christian studies; Indian music; English; French; Hindi; Kannada; Malayalam; Tamil literature; Tamil studies; computational linguistics; Telugu, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit, applied Sanskrit; psychology; mathematics; computer science; geology; applied geology; analytical chemistry; inorganic chemistry; organic chemistry; physical chemistry; theoretical physics; nuclear physics; scientific instrumentation; advanced biochemistry; botany; endocrinology; environmental toxicology; and law.

Admission procedure
Selection for MBA and MCA programmes will be made on the basis of the ranks obtained in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET). Aspirants from other States should appear for TANCET for general seats. The entrance examinations for M.Phil. and other postgraduate programmes will be held from June 2. Application and prospectus can be downloaded from the university web site www.unom.ac.in from April 15. The filled applications should be submitted (along with a demand draft for Rs. 200 drawn in favour of the Registrar, University of Madras, Chennai - 5 and attested photocopies of certificates) to the heads of the university departments. The last date for the receipt of completed application forms for the postgraduate and M.Phil. programmes is May 26.
