The students up to ninth standard will only have to write a yearly exam and a term exam from this academic year onwards, said Educational Minister M A Baby here. The minister said the term examination could be considered a half yearly exam.

The shift system will be terminated completely step by step by reassembling protected teachers. If protected teachers remain, decision on their job will be taken after consulting teachers' organizations. Free text books will be given to students up to eighth standard.
