As many as 92.09 percent students received D+ or higher grade needed for eligibility for higher studies in the 2007-2008 SSLC examinations setting an all-time record.
Education Minister M A Baby justified the high pass percentage saying it was a result of the teachers’ constant efforts to improve the standards.
Baby told reporters here on Tuesday that if the higher pass percentage was due to the liberal awarding of marks, the analysis would have shown that more students would have passed the examinations in D+ grade.
However, the analysis showed that 6,480 passed the examinations in A+ grade in all subjects this year as against 4,269 in 2007. This was an increase of 51.79 percent from the previous year, he said.
Baby said that those who criticised the high percentage of pass were mum on the repeated high percentage pass in CBSE examinations which always touched 90 percent.
