The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has invited applications for an entrance test for admission to the B.Sc. nautical science programme commencing on August 1. The programme, conducted by IGNOU and the Directorate-General of Shipping, is aimed at orienting cadets to become officers in the Merchant Navy through training and education.
Eligibility for admission is pass in Plus Two with physics, chemistry and mathematics with not less than 55 per cent marks taken together; or B.Sc. with physics as one of the subjects with 50 per cent marks provided that at the Plus Two level, the candidate should have studied physics, chemistry and mathematics; or BE or B.Tech who have scored at least 50 per cent marks in English at the 10th or 12th standard or in the degree course.
Age as on August 1 should not be more than 20 in case of Plus Two applicants, 22 in case of B.Sc. degree holders and 24 in case of BE or B.Tech. degree holders. Age limit is relaxed by two years for women and by five years for candidates from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The applicants should meet physical and medical fitness stipulations. Selection is based on an entrance test (OPENNET) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 15. Application forms and prospectus can be downloaded from www.ignou.ac.in. Filled applications, along with a demand draft for Rs. 600 drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at Delhi, should reach the Registrar (SR&ED), Block 12, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Maiden Garhi, New Delhi - 110 068, on or before May 27.
