Mammootty plays boat driver in Kutty Sranku
Shaji N Karun's off-beat Kutty Sranku with Mammooty, in the title role has started rolling in and around Kuttanad area near Allapuzha in Kerala. As the film is based on the change in seasons, environmental and climatic changes, the second and third schedule of the movie will be shot by the end of September and December 2008 respectively.
The film is produced by Reliance Entertainment under the banner of Big Motion Pictures, the first ever production by Anil Ambani's newly launched entertainment concern in Malayalam.
The film is set in the early 60's and is about a boat driver who runs a parcel service between Kodungaloor and Kollam, through the back waters of Kerala.
He has three concubines in three different islands enroute, and the story is about his relationship with them, but each one of them is unaware about the presence of others. They meet for the first time only after the death of the protagonist.
Kamalini Mukerjee, Padmapriya and Srilankan actress Meenakumari play the three women in Kutty Sranku's life. The others in the cast are Sai Kumar, Siddique, Suresh Krishna etc.
Anjali Shukla, a Pune film institute graduate, and a former assistant of Santosh Sivan, handles camera for the film.
