Boycott results in hollywood movie The Love Guru failure at box office

The boycott against Hollywood movie "The Love Guru" for lampooning Hinduism proved to be disastrous, contributing to its blunt failure at the box office, a religious leader claimed.

"The boycott call of Hindus against the movie for blatant ridiculing of Hinduism has been proved to be very effective," Rajan Zed, the Hindu leader, announced here.

Zed, who spearheaded the campaign issued the boycott call, said, "According to reports, Hindus as well as non-Hindus have been shunning the movie in USA and Canada, where it was released on June 20." Protests are reportedly being planned in India and Australia on its release there by various organizations including Hindu Alliance of India, Shri Ramayan Pracharini Sabha, India Heritage Panel.

A prominent Jewish Rabbi, Elizabeth W Beyer of Nevada, has already called for boycott of "The Love Guru" because it "lampoons Hinduism and its philosophy and mocks Ashram life." "Hinduism, followed by one billion people should not be taken lightly," Zed warned.

Meanwhile, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has declared the movie "morally offensive" and slapped it with its highest rating "O".
