National Eligibility Test
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, has invited applications for the National Eligibility Test (NET) for science subjects to be held on December 21, 2008.
The test is conducted jointly by CSIR and the University Grants Commission for determining the eligibility for awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and lectureship.
Candidates can apply for both JRF and lectureship together or for lectureship only.
Separate merit list will be prepared for JRF and lectureship. Lectureship is the eligibility for appointment as lecturers in colleges.
Those qualifying JRF will be eligible for fellowship to pursue Ph.D programmes.
The Test will be held in various subjects - chemical sciences; earth, atmospheric, ocean and planetary sciences; life sciences; mathematical sciences; and physical sciences.
Eligibility
Master's degree holders in the subjects concerned with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, differently-abled and visually-challenged categories) are eligible to appear for NET. Those awaiting the result of the qualifying examination can also apply under the Result Awaited category.
Upper age limit for applying for JRF is 28 years as on July 1, 2008, which may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, differently-abled and visually-challenged categories and female applicants. There is no upper age limit for lectureship.
Papers
There will be two papers for the test. Each paper carries 200 marks and duration is two and a half hours.
Timing: 10 am - 12.30 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 4.30 p.m. Syllabus of Paper I section A, subject-wise syllabus of Paper I section B and Paper II has been revised with effect from December 2008.
In Kerala, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will be the test centres.
How to apply
Application form and information bulletin can be obtained from the Indian Bank branches at Kochi (Vytilla); Kottayam (MC Road, Baker Jn); Kozhikode (SM Street); Thrissur (Swaraj Round East); and Thiruvananthapuram (Indian Bank Towers, MG Road) by paying Rs.400 (Rs.200 for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes and Rs.100 for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, differently-abled and visually-challenged categories).
Candidates can also apply online on the web site www.csirhrdg.res.in before September 4, 2008.
A print out of the application form signed by the candidate and affixed with a black and white photograph of the candidate along with photocopies of the relevant certificates and bank challan of the application fee remitted should be sent to The Sr. Controller of Examination, Human Resource Development Group, Examination Unit, CSIR Complex, Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi - 110 012 so as to reach the addressee on or before September 11, 2008.
