Shepherds flock to city

A huge crowd of Shepherdians descended from the hills of Ooty to Kochi on Friday.

Their goal? To watch the first show of director Kamal's latest venture Goal that's on the roll all over Kerala from Friday. Goal, with Kamal's characteristic ace of new comers, was shot in the sylvanic settings of Good Shepherd International School, Ooty.

The first show of the movie was crowded with Shepherdians and ardent Kamal fans. Shenoys, the theatre premiering Goal, started the movie with a blast. The chendamelam was in tune to the beat of the spirit of the youth who thronged the theatre.

The road show with the young men in yellow jerseys gave the feel of a football match that was just about to begin.

Goal is a nostalgic return for actor Rahman who dons the role of a teacher in the film. Rahman's first movie Koodevide was shot at the same locale 23 years ago, with him acting as a student infatuated with his teacher.

Some of the staff who were there when the Padmarajan film was shot at the school in 1983 are still around. Sheila Alexander who was then a teacher is now the headmistress.

She will soon be in the city to see the school on silver screen yet another time. It was with deep feeling that I watched Koodevide. I am looking forward to see Goal too with equal anguish, she says.

The Shepherdians in the city were thrilled about the movie. They were sure that someone they know or they themselves are in some shot or the other. My brother Dennie is there in a song sequence, gushed Deepthi, an ex-Shepherdian who was at Shenoys. She also said that

many of her friends were watching the first show at different theatres all over Kerala. I am here to watch Goal and rave about it to my friends and relatives, says Enoch George.

If the excitement on the faces of these youngsters is any indication, it looks like Kamal has scored a Goal yet again!
