Anappara
From afar, Anappara looks like a wild tusker standing on its knees. As you get closer to the spot, you find even the biggest elephant too small to compare with this rock elephant shaped by nature and time.
Muthaippara, in Upputhura panchayat is undoubtedly a place where nature has turned into a lavish sculptor. Descending from your vehicle, you are welcomed by three sculptured ducks standing on a hill. And remember, no man has ever placed these there. A 20 mt walk from here enables you to reach Anappara, a more attractive spot. Here you can have a peaceful rest in the mouth of a large tusker enjoying the surrounding scenes
A local myth heard here narrates the story of a saint, who, while on a tour came under the attack of a wild tusker. The saint inanimated the beast and left the site, never to turn up to give back the animal, its life. Since then, the tusker remained there on its knees, begging for the mercy of the saint. This is no picnic spot. Keep an eye on nature and its varied myths. Watch out for the sparkling rainbow as rain water splashes on the rock.
But avoid journey during extreme monsoon as the rock may turn slippery. There are regular bus services from kottayam to Upputhara. Or catch any high range bus from kottayam and get down at parappu. You may get taxis from here. Carry food along. Find lodging at Elappara
