Njandirukki


Njandirukki is a hidden beauty in the depths of forest. Though not steep and direct, the stream falls from over a height of 200 ft. The stream originating from Cheppukulam hill slips and sidles crab like across a treacherous rock at the foothill of Poomala-Methotty forest area. Hence the name Njandirukki. Remember, this is a spot to be experienced only with an adventurous spirit.

Since the area comes under the reserved forest category, venomous creepers and dangerous beasts pose danger. Keep a keen eye and a lengthy rod for self-defence. Pack off in the wee hours so as to ensure your return by the evening. To get the beauty on camera is difficult. Climb the steep rocks, crawl through the thorny bushes and clear one's way to reach the spot. The trekking is rewarding with unexpected encounters with a large variety of life forms which only a forest can provide

Some local youths, who accompanied out team showed a natural cave near Njandirukki. To reach the spot, catch any bus to Poomala, which lies 18 km away from Thodupuzha. Seek the help of locals from Poomala, who will eagerly guide you to Njandirukki. It takes nearly 4 km trek from Poomala. To savour all the beauty at less risk, it is advisable to avoid travel during extreme summer or monsoon. Seek accommodation at Thodupuzha.
