Vengathanam

Vengathanam is barely 3 km away from Chemmalamattom on Kanjirappally- Eratupetta route. This beauty spot cradled between Idukki and Kottayam districts with a cool bright rivulet can certainly satiate the thirst of any nature lover. The other route is from Erattupetta via Poonjar. There are only few buses from Erattupetta to Poonjar. Take an auto and reach the hilltop. From there one can witness the mesmerizing scene of water cascades falling down to a depth of 70 ft. through the fall is reduced to one fifth of the actual size during summer, it never completely disappears.

Presence of a large area of rubber plantations and natural groves provide cool temperature. A downward journey through the aruvi itself is an enthralling experience. There are towering trees adorned with 'natural ropes' hanging calling you for a long swing. May be after that, one can opt for a rock beneath a big tree and sit for along listening to the brook or chirping birds. Walking form Chemmalamattom to the foothill of the fall is a scintillating experience.

Oottupara, a vast rock spreading over an area of two acres, lies left of the way. It is believed that the erst while rulers of Poonjar hosted here an annual party for poor villagers respecting their hard work. Oottupara is scenic and is historically important. An aerial view of lowlying areas Aruvithura, Kanjirappally and Pala would stir any nature lover. Stay at Erattupetta, carry food along.
